« am: 04. April 2013, 16:18:48 »
Guten tag Deutsche freunden!,

Mein Deutsch ist sehr schlecht, so, Ich kann auch Englisch tippen?

My name is Robin Schoenmakers, 23 years old, living in Dongen, in den Niederlanden.
Last summer I purchased two Opel GT's. One '69 original Dutch, one US type.
Since that moment I am busy with restoration of the US body and front/rear axle.

It would be fun to share my experience here on this very cool forum!

Follow me on facebook, i post much more photo's there!!

Looking forward to all the reply's!!! :tumb:

Hi Robin

How do you do! Yes, of course you can write in English, but there aren' t a lot Users they give you an answer ( English- experience ).  :zuck:

So, welcome @ Opel GT Forum

Your work looks good ; let me guess: you wanna build the C20xe engine into the GT ( opel16v )?

What kind of vented Brakes are this on the picture? Which brake caliper want you to use?

I'm not registered on Facebook, so I can't see the pictures.

It's more interesting if you posted some pictures here.  :zwinker:

Good luck and be successful !

Good evening!

Regards  :hut:

Hey hey!, i'm fine, thank you :tumb:

The C20XE is old and costs a lot compared to a X20XEV.
I'm gonna use the X20XEV, modified with some components like exaus manifold, intake manifold, mapping etc.

I use the brake disks and calipers from a Rekord 2.2E. In the rear i go for the original brakes modified with 3/4 brake cylinders.

I will post more pictures soon :kaffee: For now i'm waiting for parts from splendidparts, i ordered them two weeks ago....stil waiting. :kaffee:

Hi Robin!
Welcome to the worlds best Forum! Here you find answers about topics that even Opel employees may not know!

Regarding 'Splendid Parts', did you order your parts via internet?
Usually they ship very quickly (in my case it's in my garage after 2-3 days), maybe they have an issue with english orders?
If you ordered using the Internet, did you check if the parts are available?
If you click on the part you see a green or a yellow marker which indicates if the part is on stock or not...

However, all the best for your restauration! The golden one looks quite nice  :tumb:

Regards
Jörg
Viele Grüße aus FFB!
Ich wünsche allen eine knitterfreie Fahrt!

Hello GT Forum friends. As promised and if you don’t follow my Facebook / Dutch tread, here’s the next installment of my Opel GT build story – and I have so much to tell you since my first post. Although I introduced you to both the cars and the project two years ago, there were some details I decided to omit. Well, sort of anyway.

So, before you continue to read this installment, maybe you should go back and visit the introduction post.
To recap on the build – I’m building a one-off Opel GT that will be used for a number of things in 2015 and beyond, including a role as a track-ready car. It’s being built in the Netherlands, here we go then…

So as you can see from this pictures, it all starts at the bottom, My floors are great, no rust, from inside the floors not too bad, some minor dents needed attention
.

If there is rust; There's only one way to do it, cut the rust out and replace the metal!

After this nose repair we loaded the bare chassis on our trailer and took it south to the paint shop.

We've found that stripping entire panels using a sand blaster  is too messy and can easily damage the thin metal. I used chemical stripping and sanding.

The cage itself is pretty much done, but there is a lot of work remaining.

It’s hard to find a wheel that works in more applications than the timeless BBS RS. The wheels are fully rebuilt and measure 15×8-inch up the front and an enormous 15×9-inch in the rear with an offset of 3. Both the barrels and centers have also been coated in a black finish that contrasts beautifully with the color of the center caps.

The C20XE has become the popular engine to swap into small and light cars, we have seen them fitted to various generations of Escord’s for example with awesome results. I decided to switch from the X20XEV to C20XE cause a number of reasons. It was quite a challenge to get the alignment right, without cutting more metal in the engine bay.

BONUS Images, to be continued
